Content Operations Manager

Closing date: 14th August 2023 at 11.30pm
Are you a digital content expert, with an abundance of web publishing experience and exceptional CMS skills? If so, Shelter is looking for a brilliant Content Operations Manager to play a key role at the heart of our Central Digital team.
About Shelter
A home is a fundamental human need, as essential as education or healthcare. Yet millions of people across Britain struggle on a daily basis with homelessness, bad housing conditions, soaring rents, discrimination and the threat of eviction. So, we are striving for change, with individuals, in communities, across society, and leading the way to a safe home. We need ambitious, best-in-class individuals who are passionate about our cause to join us at this exciting time. This is your chance to play a part in the fundamental change we are striving to achieve.
At Shelter we are united by our purpose to defend the right to a safe home. Our enemy is the social injustice at the core of the escalating housing emergency. We believe that to win that fight, we must be representative of the people we are here to help and those who support our movement for change. In all our people decisions, we take pride in being inclusive, fair, equitable and transparent.
We have committed to combat racism both within and outside Shelter and welcome you on our journey to becoming a truly anti-racist organisation.
About the team
Shelter helps millions of people each year, and the digital team plays a key role by producing exciting content design work for directorates across the organisation. The content team delivers their work through the Central Digital team, which includes web development, design, analytics, product management and delivery management. Collectively, they set the example for Shelter in digital best practice, discovery, and innovation.
About the role
As Shelter’s CMS lead, you will be the systems owner for – and resident expert in - our publishing platform, Contentful. As part of this, you’ll be responsible for the ROI of the software, mapping new features against our strategic priorities and working with senior leaders and business owners to realise their implementation. You’ll take charge of the monitoring and administration of licenses and accounts within agreed budgeting envelopes, and forecast for future use based on strategic objectives.
We are in the process of implementing an organisation-wide governance model for managing devolved content, and we’ll count on you to support Business Owners and Content Managers through the ongoing roll out, while also working with stakeholders to ensure they are equipped to meet business goals, targets, and user needs. You’ll continue working with colleagues to build the infrastructure necessary to support devolved publishing, and train devolved teams and colleagues in how to make the best use of Shelter’s CMS. Line managing a team of Senior Content Designers and deputising for the Head of Content when necessary are also key elements of this rewarding and varied role.
About you
With a thorough understanding of content models and different approaches to content operations, you’ll have experience of designing or using adaptable publishing workflows, and know how these can be used in the devolvement of content to stakeholders. An excellent knowledge of the content design discipline and its processes is vital, as is the ability to work with colleagues from other disciplines and engage with stakeholders. An impressive communicator with outstanding editorial skills, you will be able to quickly get to grips with Shelter’s tone of voice and brand, and ensure they are consistently applied across our digital estate. A sound understanding of UX, usability and accessibility issues is important, and line management experience is a must.
Benefits
We offer a wide range of excellent benefits, including 30 days of annual leave, enhanced family friendly policies, pension and interest free travel loans. Our employees also have access to a tenancy deposit loan, payroll giving, cycle to work scheme and an employee assistance programme.
Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through our advice, support and legal services. And we campaign to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to us for help. We’re here so no one has to fight bad housing or homelessness on their own.
